Herons, Cranes & Egrets/Spring Flowering Bulbs

At long last, after a year of Zoom programs, the Long Grove Park District is once again doing in-person nature & gardening talks at Reed-Turner Nature Center.

On Monday, August 16th at 1 pm, is an always popular talk on Herons, Cranes and Egrets. Tall, wading birds can be challenging to tell apart from a distance. Discover the different species of herons, cranes and egrets that reside in Lake County in the spring, summer and fall. Learn about the unique adaptations and habitat requirements of these magnificent birds.  This will be presented by the passionate nature experts from the Lake County Forest Preserve staff.

On Wednesday, August 25th at 1 pm, the topic will be Spring Flowering Bulbs.  This presentation focuses on designing, selecting, planting and caring for spring bulbs. Since spring bulbs are planted in early fall, this makes a timely program in late summer. This will be presented by a master gardener with University of Illinois Extension Lake County.

Reed-Turner Woodland and Nature Center is at 3849 Old McHenry Road in Long Grove. The program fee is $5.00. These programs are suggested for ages 18 years old and up. Pre-registration is required. Max # is 20.  To sign up call the Long Grove Park District at 847-438-4743 or email syoung@lgparks.org
