Landscaping at Home with Native Plants

The Long Grove – Kildeer Garden Club presents “Landscaping at Home with Native Plants”, by Meredith Tucker of Citizens for Conservation.

Natives make sense because they grew up here in Illinois.  From our soils to our weather, plants native to Illinois and the Midwest are more tolerant of our seasonal conditions.  Since they evolved in our clay soils and unpredictable weather, they grow vigorously and are more apt to fight off disease, pests, and fungal pathogens.  Additionally, you may not have to use fertilizers, insecticides or fungicides because these plants possess natural immunity.  You probably need to water them less frequently or not at all.  It’s a win-win situation for them, for you, and for your garden.

Guests are always welcome.
